The star topology uses a central switching unit to radially connect to each node of the network, and all other devices are connected to the central node in a point-to-point manner. In the mesh topology, each device is connected by a point-to-point link. This type of connection is not economical and is only used when each site needs to send information frequently. Its installation is complex, but the system has high reliability and strong fault tolerance. It is one of the most reliable but also the most complex network structures.

The cellular topology is a topology based on the concept of cellular networks. It simulates the structure of a honeycomb and divides the network into multiple hexagonal areas. Each area has a base station responsible for communication. It is a commonly used structure in wireless local area networks. It is characterized by point-to-point and multi-point transmission of wireless transmission media. It is a wireless network suitable for urban networks, campus networks, and enterprise networks.

Distributed topology is a network form that interconnects computers distributed in different locations through lines. Each node has at least two links connecting to other nodes. Due to the use of decentralized control, even if a part of the entire network fails, it will not affect the operation of the entire network, so it has high reliability.
